Information:
Fourteen
years after the end of the civil war, activists for human rights and non
violent conflict transformation are still persecuted and threatened in
Guatemala. The international organization Peace Brigades International (PBI)
offers international accompaniment for these human rights activists to protect
them and to enlarge the space for these people and respective organizations to
carry out their work. The alumnus from the Philipps-University Marburg, Lena
Niehaus, lived one year in Guatemala and accompanied threatened activists
together with an international PBI-team to support their struggle for human
rights and justice.
In her
lecture Lena Niehaus will introduce some of the human rights defenders and
their work and she will talk about the risks human rights defenders in
Guatemala are exposed to. She will also offer an introduction to PBI in general
and introduce the idea of international accompaniment.
